On July 1, a new requirement came into force for foreigners wishing to marry Turkish citizens. Now, to get married in Turkey, a foreigner must have a residence permit or a long-term visa.
That is, now a foreigner, in order to get married, must confirm the right to long-term stay in Turkey. A visa that allows you to stay in the country for more than 90 days, a residence permit or a work permit will be suitable. A simple “tourist entry” will no longer do.
The requirement applies not only to foreigners who want to tie the knot with Turkish citizens, but also to couples where both applicants are from another country.
These measures were taken to combat fictitious marriages and illegal migration.
