Turkey Tourism Industry Statistics 2023
Tourism revenues in Turkey in 2023 increased by 16.9% compared to 2022 (to $ 54.3 billion), and the number of foreign tourists increased by more than 10% (to 49.2 million people).
In 2023, average tourist spending per capita was $ 952 ($ 905 figure for 2022). Average daily expenses increased by almost 12% (to $ 99).
Tourist spending on food increased by 33.2% compared to the previous year, and spending on accommodation increased by 27%. According to TÜIK, international transport costs increased by 22.2%, while transport costs within Turkey increased by 11.9%. About 5% of tourists visited Turkey for shopping. Tourists spent $ 6.45 billion on clothing and shoes and another $ 1.49 billion on souvenirs.
Russians and Germans made up the largest group of foreign holidaymakers. In 2023, the country was visited by more than 6.3 million Russians (5.23 million in 2022), and the number of German tourists increased from 5.7 million (in 2022) to 6.2 million.
The number of tourists from the UK increased by 13% (to 3.8 million people). The number of Ukrainians visiting Turkey increased by more than 23% compared to 2022 and amounted to 839 thousand people. In 2023, Turkey also received 2.89 million tourists from Bulgaria and 2.5 million from Iran.
